Housing Disrepair: Client Story – Rising Damp

 Our Client

Our client lives in a three-bedroom house in Tamworth. She faced a number of issues in the property, including severe damp and mould which had been causing damage to the decoration in the property. She also had issues to the exterior of the property such as blocked guttering, defective brickwork and damage to the roof tiles since October 2021. The issues in the property caused our client severe stress as she lives in the property with her grandson, she was concerned that living with the damp and mould would impact their quiet enjoyment and well-being.

After obtaining expert evidence and liaising with our client’s landlord, Bond Turner were able to secure an efficacious settlement for our client without court proceedings becoming necessary. The expert found issues of rising damp to the property which required investigation and remedy. The rising damp was causing issues with damp, mould and defective plaster in numerous rooms of our clients property. The settlement encompassed the landlord to complete the expert recommended  repairs within 56 days. In addition to this, the landlord to pay £8,425.30 in damages, and full payment of our clients legal costs.
